I don't know what to think of this
A former CIA executive says we're better off with bin Laden on the loose.
"You can make the argument that we're better off with him (at large)," Krongard said. "Because if something happens to Bin Laden, you might find a lot of people vying for his position and demonstrating how macho they are by unleashing a stream of terror."I have long felt that capturing bin Laden wasn't a pressing issue. He doesn't represent near the threat that some of the other terrorists do.
Krongard, a former investment banker who joined the CIA in 1998, said Bin Laden's role among Islamic militants was changing.
"He's turning into more of a charismatic leader than a terrorist mastermind," he said. "Some of his lieutenants are the ones to worry about."
I'm not sure I agree with Krongard that the capture of bin Laden might unleash a stream of terror. I think it's equally likely that it would be a demoralizing blow to the terrorists. But I doubt it would accomplish much of anything in the way of stemming the tide of terror. Bin Laden is just one man. There are many more with the same desire to kill infidels and reinstate the caliphate, and I'm sure some of them wouldn't mind having bin Laden out of the way.
