Rumsfeld's enemies

Eric Pfeiffer discusses the vacuity of the "reasoning" behind those who want to dump Rumsfeld and why the media is so enamored with them. While I agree with the points he makes and I think they're perfectly valid points, I don't think they're quite as strong as the ones that I made yesterday. Whenever you want to find the source behind a politician's ire, follow the money. Rumsfeld has gored some influential Senators, and in so doing he has made himself the target of their attacks.

Personally I don't think Rumsfeld really cares what they think, and he's obviously not too bothered by their anger. At the same time, he's an astute observer of the Washington political scene, so he knows when a response is required, which he gave yesterday. He also rests in the knowledge that his boss could care less what the Senators think as well. Bush knows Rumsfeld is doing an excellent job, and that's all that matters. Washington politics is just a side show for the buffoons.
