Mutiny in Iraq
Cori Dauber, who does yeoman work analyzing the old media's coverage of news events, discusses TV coverage of this story of mutiny by a National Guard platoon in Iraq. The story first appeared in Mississippi's The Clarion-Ledger.
Dauber points out that the outlets use it as a launching pad for the worn-out argument that things aren't going well in Iraq, the troops are poorly equipped and about to mutiny en masse. She also notes that the information they report has not even been confirmed but is taken second-hand from families of the Guard members as well as a voicemail message left by one service member.
It's a stupid argument, but the media will continue to make it in the hope that it will put John Kerry over the top.
