Kerry's vision - a 9/10 world

"Everybody" in the blogsphere is talking about Matt Bai's article about John Kerry. I've read several takes on it including Hugh Hewitt, Roger Simon, Powerline and Tom Maquire, but I like Wretchard's analysis the best.

Essentially, Bai "reveals" that Kerry wants to return to the past - to the days before 9/10, when life was predictable and terrorism could be contained to a "nuisance". (I'm sure the victims of 9/11 and their families don't view it as a nuisance, but that's, I guess, the necessary evil of putting up with nuisances.)

Here's Kerry's "vision" (Emphasis mine)
'We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' Kerry said. ''As a former law-enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life.''
You see, liberals like to deal with problems such as this with "diplomacy" and "negotiation" because they aren't the ones being blown up.

It's easy to detach yourself from reality when you live in multi-million dollar mansions, windsurf with the rich and ski in Aspen. It's a little harder when it's your family and loved ones being sacrificed on the altar of "civilized discourse". Kerry wants to "get back to the place we were". IOW he would somehow roll back the clock to before the terrorists committed the mass murder of 9/11 to the days when they only killed a few hundred of our troops or rolled the wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer off the deck of the Achille Lauro.

How kind of him. Hey what's a few dead Americans so long as we can maintain our alliances? After all, just because the French, Germans and Russians were milking the Oil-for-Food program for all it was worth and never would have signed on to a war against Sadaam doesn't mean we can't work with them. It just takes a superior intellect like Kerry's to sort it all out.
